Rotor Housing Repair
Chrome rotor housing grinding
We offer our chrome housing grinding service for both 12A and 13B rotor housings. This service will rejuvenate used rotor housings and restore them to a like new Mazda OEM surface finish. This service can remove chatter marks, fine scratches or grooves, waviness or uneven surfaces as well as dramatically reduce larger scratches and grooves. Rotor housings that have been re-ground have better oil retention and will make better compression, ultimately making an engine that will perform better and outlast "used housing" engines.
$150 each for all 13B or 12A rotor housings
Cermet B rotor housing refinishing
Damaged and worn rotor housings can be repaired using our cermet B refinishing process where the chrome is removed and replaced with our cermet B performance refinishing. This coating will reduce friction and wear resulting in a rotor housing that will yield more power and exhibit far greater durability (more information in our Technical section).
This service can repair housings that have chrome flaking, scratches, heavy chatter and shallow grooves. For further info refer to our Core Guidelines section.
Cermet A rotor housing refinishing
An ideal choice for high performance engines! This coating offers great durability and excellent frictional characteristics, making it the choice of novice street and track racers and many professional engine builders. Carbon seals are not recommended with these housings and we highly recommend the use of ceramic apex seals.
This service can typically repair imperfections protruding into the steel liner up to approximately 0.006" at the standard rate. For additional repairs, imperfections up to 0.030" can be repaired. (Contact us for quotations on additional repairs.)
Cermet X rotor housing refinishing
Our cermet X coating provides superior friction and durability to both chrome and Cermet B&C coatings. This coating is an improved evolution of the cermet coatings used in the 1991 LeMans winning 787B racecar. This coating is ideal when using ceramic apex seals for racing and ultra high performance applications. Further information is provided in the Technical section).
This service can repair housings that have chrome flaking, grooving, scratches, heavy chatter and localized apex seal failure damage. For further info refer to our Core Guidelines section.
Cermet X refinishing service $750ea
Cermet A refinishing service $545ea
Cermet B refinishing service $350ea
Chrome grinding service $150ea

End & Intermediate Housing Repair
The worn stock end and intermediate housings are repaired by grinding the faces flat and parallel, effectively removing the hard nitrided surface. The face is coated with our cermet X or A coating and then ground and lapped to provide a high performance sealing and wear surface that will create less friction and wear than a new stock nitrided face. This process is ideal for high performance endurance engines and street engines alike. Refer to our Technical section for more details.

Rotor Modifications
Thermal barrier ceramic coating
Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBC's) reduce the heat transfer rate. In exhaust systems it is beneficial to keep the heat within the part to increase scavenging and maintain high velocity. In combustion chambers you want to retain the heat energy to push against the piston or rotor rather than transfer it to the oil or coolant. In a performance rotary engine coated rotors help reduce bearing temperature and failure as well as increase the output of the engine. Coated exhaust components will decrease under hood temperatures and increase exhaust gas velocity. Coated intake components will insulate intake air from hotter ambient temperatures and also result in a shiny chrome-like finish.

Compression ratio increasing / compression balancing
For competition engines, we can raise the compression ratio of your rotor by adding material to the combustion pocket. The material is precision deposited to give each flank the same recess volume and provide for better compression balance. This service can be used to raise the compression ratio up to 11:1 and is available in “as sprayed” form (where the client will have to finish the combustion pocket) OR with a CNC milled finish that can be tailored to your preferences.
Additionally, we are also able to precision CNC mill each rotor flank to ensure that each face of the rotor is providing the same compression and that each one has the same rotor recess profile. This is especially important on race engines where the OEM Mazda rotor have varying compression ratio’s from flank to flank.
Raise compression by ½ point $280 ea
Raise compression by 1 point $350 ea
CNC finishing of rotor flanks $300 per rotor
Balancing of compression ratio’s $200 per rotor
Wire EDM 3mm Apex seal groove cutting
Wire EDM cutting of the apex seal grooves is the most accurate method and also provides the best surface finish. This method is especially recommended when using ceramic apex seals or when enlarging hardened grooves on later style rotors that are very difficult to mill properly.
Wire EDM 3mm Apex seal groove cutting $450 per set of two
Rotor scallop machining
This rotor modification is offered in varying degrees to open intake ports earlier while minimizing the effects of overlap. On Renesis rotors this will affect both intake and exhaust timing.
Our largest basic scallops will open a stock intake port up to 20 degrees of shaft rotation earlier that a non scalloped rotor whereas our extreme racing scallop can open the intake port nearly as early as a peripheral or bridge port. The amount of rotor scallop and its effect on timing can be customized to meet the client’s needs.
Rotor scallop machining $250 per rotor
High RPM rotor tip clearance
For engines operating at high RPM’s, we offer additional rotor tip clearance to reduce the possibility of contact between the rotor tip and the side housing.
High RPM rotor tip clearance machining $150 per rotor
